Visit Frontier

Frontier is a Portuguese town in the district of Portalegre, with about 3300 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with 245.20 km ² and 3,286 inhabitants (2006), limited to the northern town of Alter do Chão, east of Monforte, southeast of Estremoz in the south and west by Sousel by Avis.
The county's charter was granted by King Manuel I in 1512.
The parishes of Frontier are as follows: Vide, Frontier, San Saturnino.

Brief Historical Summary
The human presence is marked in the territories of Frontier for more than 10,000 years.
As for the village, it will have been founded in the reign of D. Dinis, with a record that in 1236 the church or frontal boundary remains at the diocese of Evora. In 1512 D. Manuel I give it a charter.
After centuries in which only joined the parish of Nossa Senhora da Atalaia Border and San Saturnino, throughout the nineteenth century the county Frontier had multiple changes, incorporated parishes of municipalities of Estremoz, Monforte and Sousel, with significant successive changes and also included the extinction of the county itself Frontier (1867), incorporated in Alter do Chão, but soon restored (1868).
In 1855 the counties were abolished and Sousel Veiros of attaching their parishes to Frontier, which thus came to understand, in addition to the parish of Nossa Senhora da Atalaia and St Saturninus, the parishes of St. Benedict Blonde Ana, Santo Aleixo, San Pedro de Almuro, King Salvador, Santo Amaro, Our Lady of Grace of the White House, Our Lady of Grace Cano, Our Lady of Grace Sousel and St. John's Riverside.
In 1863 the county is restored Sousel. Then in 1869 is detached from the parish of St. Benedict and Anna Blonde in 1871 to St. Alexius in 1872 were detached parishes of St. Peter King and Savior of Almuro, returning Frontier to contain only its early parishes of Our Lady of Atalaia and San Saturnino, plus the Santo Amaro.
Once Frontier has yet to receive the parishes of St. Peter and again Vaiamonte Almuro of that return to be unattached in 1898 to join the municipality of Monforte.
Finally back in the twentieth century, by decree of December 21, 1932, Santo Amaro becomes part of the county and Border Sousel integrates the parish of Nossa Senhora das Candeias, former county Vide dissolved in 1855 and then integrated into Alter do Chão.
