The Mondego River is the fifth largest Portuguese river and the first of all that have its course entirely in Portugal. The Barbican Gate, located in the Parish of Almedina, is an arch that is the best preserved structure of the old wall of Coimbra, which corresponded to the main gate of the city in the Islamic period. The Rainha Santa Isabel Bridge is a towering bridge over the Mondego River, upstream from Coimbra's city center and connects the Parishes of Almedina and Santa Clara. It was opened in 2004.
It is an asymmetrical tie-down bridge designed by engineer António Reis. It has a total span of 329.4 meters, with a main span of 186.5 meters. It consists of two lanes with three lanes in each direction on a 30 meter wide board.

The Pedro e Inês Bridge is a pedestrian and bike path bridge over the Mondego River, in the Mondego Green Park of the city of Coimbra. And that connects the two banks of the Mondego, between the Parishes of Almedina and Santa Clara.
It is a work designed by engineer António Adão da Fonseca and architect Cecil Balmond. The bridge has five uneven spans overturned by downed metal arches, the largest of which is 110 meters. The total length is 274.5 meters, with the deck a mixed steel-reinforced concrete section. The wooden walkway is four meters wide, creating a square eight meters wide in the middle; The guards are made of laminated glass in four colors: yellow, blue, green and pink.

Mondego Green Park, located in the Parish of Almedina, is large and open access.
The right bank consists of an area of over 400.000m2, basically dedicated to leisure, with a large terrace area, based on a wooden platform over the river. The green zone has four kilometers of pedestrian corridors and the same length of cycle paths.

Doctor Manuel Braga Park, located in the Parish of Almedina, is an emblematic park of the city of Coimbra, with a privileged location by the Mondego River.
It was initially a space belonging to the Benedictine monks, located at the level of the river's waterways, subject to constant flooding. In 1888, the Coimbra City Council bought Ínsua dos Bentos, consisting of orange groves, an open area where horse races were held and a soccer field, where the Academic played. In 1920 it is proposed to transform the old Ínsua dos Bentos into a public garden, being in charge of the project the landscaper from Porto, Jacinto de Matos.
The name of the park was deliberated in order to honor Dr. Manuel Braga, a great driver in the valorization and creation of green spaces in the city, namely the Vale de Canas Forest and the gardens of Av. Sá da Bandeira.

The Coimbra Water Museum, located in the Parish of Almedina and occupying the former water treatment and lifting station, was inaugurated in March 2007, the current structure was designed by architects João Mendes Ribeiro, Alberto Lapa and Paolo Monzo to portray the history of public water supply. Also noteworthy is the use of the underground tunnel that currently leads to an esplanade by the river banks. This museum space is a place of celebration of ancient memories, inspired by the permanent dialogue between Coimbra and the Mondego River. The Museum's annual cultural program has a number of suggestions for activities and events, ranging from painting, sculpture, video, art installations, book presentation / release, music concerts, to thematic seminars and workshops.

The Academic Museum of Coimbra is housed in the former St. Jerome College in the Parish of Almedina.
The Academic Museum was the first museum space dedicated to academic life. The museum began in 1987. It has a considerable collection of elements that are historical testimonies of academic experience throughout the ages. Several collections can be seen, linked to the Coimbra song (with instruments, scores, records) linked to sport (with exhibition of some of the trophies won by the Coimbra Academic Association); academic costumes, photographs, prints, sculptures, painting, ceramics and also a documentary archive, which make us know the history and academic life of the University.

The Coimbra Botanical Garden, located in the Parish of Almedina, extends over 13.5 hectares on land donated by the Benedictine friars. The garden was created to complement the study of Natural History and Medicine at the University of Coimbra. Marquis of Pombal was the great driver of its construction in 1773.
Spread over several levels, staircases and avenues, it is one of the most renowned botanical gardens in the world, allowing a trip to the four corners of the earth, due to the diversity of plants it has.
The forest occupies two thirds of the total garden area and is mainly composed of free-growing exotic trees and bamboo.

The Coimbra Major Seminary Building, located in the Parish of Almedina, is a sui generis building given its Italian architecture and featuring several spaces that are worth a close visit.
Noteworthy is the Sagrada Familia church, with its dome, considered one of the most beautiful in the country; the reliquary chapel of S. Miguel; the Old Library, with more than 9,000 books from 1507 to 1800; the episcopal chambers; the tile room; and the Mondego Balcony, which has a magnificent view over the city. Noteworthy is a woodcut by Monsignor Nunes Pereira, a canvas by the famous painter Grão Vasco and the 18th century pipe organ, built in 1762 by João Fontana de Maquera, which falls under the category of “Iberian organs” and which has 1500 tubes.

The College of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, located in the Parish of Almedina, was built in 1541, for the residence of clerics of the diocese of Porto who wished to attend the University. In 1547, it was donated to the Order of Carmelite Footwear and became extinct under the Law of 1834, and passed to the Venerable Third Order of San Francisco, where it is today installed. Although it has undergone several changes, the old college complex retains original tile panels as well as some paintings
