The Barbican Gate, located in the Parish of Almedina, is an arch that is the best preserved structure of the old wall of Coimbra, which corresponded to the main gate of the city in the Islamic period. Above the arch is the sculpture of Our Lady, the national coat of arms and the representative symbol of the foundation of the city.
