The Tagus International Natural Park, an area that covers the border of the Tagus border, as well as adjacent valleys and flattened areas, is an area of ​​recognized importance in terms of nature conservation, in particular the fauna values ​​it houses and where several species are strictly protected by international conventions, some of them classified as endangered species, others with the status of vulnerable and others still considered rare.
The Tagus cliffs play a key role in the conservation of flora and fauna species, along with other biotopes characteristic of the southern landscapes, namely vast areas of cork oak and holm oak and some cereal stems.
The various water lines present, with associated riparian plant communities, are also an important natural heritage to be preserved.
The Parque Natural do Tejo Internacional covers an area of ​​26484 hectares and extends over territory belonging to the counties of Castelo Branco Idanha-a-Nova and Vila Velha de Ródão. In the Municipality of Castelo Branco it includes, among others, the Parish of Malpica do Tejo
