The Catherine Euphemia Statue stands on a stone pedestal about 2m high. It was built in 1976 in honor of the people of Baleizão.

Catarina Eufémia was a Portuguese harvester, a militant of the PCP who, following a strike of rural wage-workers, was shot to death by Lieutenant Carrajola of the Republican National Guard.

At the age of twenty-six, illiterate, Catherine had three children, one of whom was eight months old, who offered resistance to the Salazar regime, being an icon of resistance in the Alentejo.
