Brief History
Al though the first references date from 1175 to Ansião year alone, 1514 D. Manuel rises to the village, and grants it a charter. The Story of Ansião millennia before there can get pretty close: the existence of a dolmen in Atalaia, another in the High Flashes and location of an Iron Age fort in Escampe S. Miguel bear witness. A treasure of silver coins found near the fort of Trás Figueiró, and the possibility of a Roman road that was heading to the Sellium Conímbriga cross these lands seems to be proved in Santiago Guard.
And this journey will continue for Alvorge and Tower Valley and All Lagarteira settlements that would fall in the area of Ladeia, the dividing line between Christians and Moors in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Medieval is also the
oven Avelar. Oven, for Senhora da Guia in September, the baked "cake" that wasdistributed to the people. Many centuries later, in 1933, JoséMalhoa painted a very beautiful altar dedicated to Our Lady ofConsolation, which is the main altar of the Church of Floor Couce.
