It consists of 4 Parishes: Aveiro, Torreira, Brunheiro and Monte. The Municipality was established on 29 October 1926.
The origin of this county is a major topic of discussion. This is because their primitive word has undergone major changes with the evolution of the English language.
The story goes that this was a land of 'fire death' land 'focus mortuary' land mortuary; mortuosa land, a land mortosa; mortosa; Murtosa.
It was said the fire killed the couple that was uninhabited and where the fire had gone out, and by generalization: all the land uncultivated or uninhabited. This word that the crisis and alleviate phonetics: land-Mortus - MORTOSA. In the old manuscripts which are passed, the toponym of our sponsorship comes at every turn, spelled differently even in their own official documents: - MORTOOZA; MORTTOZA; MORTOZA; MURTOOZA, MURTOZA; MURTUOZA. For the phonetic laws, is vulgar conversion of the unstressed vowel U, and the archaic spelling, often duplicating the tonic vowels. So it would have slanted in MURTOSA. The dead land, desolate plain, almost vegetative life, that the gales, cruel and desolate, beat more often in FREIMA jagged coastline.
This designation of "dead land", due to the fact that this area be called Waterfront Marine are in full uniform and homogeneous character of the association of its geological structure and ethnic diversity. The same harmony in all the confusing details of the whole. Even your flooring plant is perfect look similar. And fall in currency cenezoica modern training. Sedimentary in nature, emerge today at the former Gulf shipping, recessed still well defined, under the action of powerful forces, erosive and constructive.
