Visit the St. James Church of Old

The Church of St. James the Old Alphonsine has origins are not known to the founding of the church, but the existence of a cross of the Knights Templar (the vestry) at the date of 1131, attests to its existence, at least Since then.
This church has an altar where the left side is a recent image of Santa Luzia, a statue of Our Lady of Fatima, a statue of St. Catherine of Siena and an image of St. Anthony. On the right side altar is a statue of Our Lady of Conception, set only by the head and hands and is sustained by a frame and the image of God Boy, an image of St. Francis with the stigmata, contemplating the crucified Christ, the image of Saint Sebastian and the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Church of St. Michael, located in the parish of Cardosas, has a nave and three altars, standing in the main image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Flanking the altar are images of St. Michael and St. Anthony and Child.
In the Gospel side altar is the image of N. Mrs. health, flanked by statues of St. Francis of Assisi and Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima. On the table this altar was placed a small picture of Santa Luzia.
On the altar on the left side of the Epistle, is the image of Our Lady of Conception, flanked by statues of St. Joseph with the Child and of St. Peter the Apostle.
The Gospel side, the middle of the nave, we see an image of the martyred St. Sebastian.
In the churchyard bordering the church, stands a cross of stone whose inscription dates from 1724.

Visit the Church of San Lorenzo - Arranhó

The Church of San Lorenzo, located in the Town of Arranhó, have been built in 1504.
It is a church nave supported on the outside of the left side, two massive buttresses. Cunhal in the right front has a bell tower with two bells and clock, served by spiral stone staircase. The headboard consists of the chancel and two side altars. The chancel opens with two arches connected and surmounted by a niche, and the bottom is covered with carved gilt wood exposed at the top, a large crucifix, flanked by statues of St. Lawrence and St. Francis of Assisi. The altar is of stone and is in the center of the sanctuary. The altar on the Gospel side has the image of Our Lady of Mercy, wood, and the Epistle side is dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. A thick balustrade presbirério closes.
On the side of the Gospel side altar there is an open wall and niche dedicated to Our Lady. To the left of the altar stands a stone pulpit, served by a ladder from the same material. On the same wall at the back of the church, opened in the chapel is the Baptistery with sink and central niche with a representative icon of the Baptism of Jesus. On the opposite wall, a shrine venerated identical to Santa Catarina.
The ceiling is covered in wood, with rectangular panels painted. The central panel, in addition to other common motifs, representing the Blessed Sacrament.
In the back of the church on the main door, is the choir, built in polychrome wood, based on the corners in the capitals of stone embedded museum walls and supported in front by two cylindrical columns of stone. The balustrade frontral bears the date 1755. The paintings represent the bottom, and various decorative motifs, symbols related to S. Lawrence.

Arruda dos Vinhos is a Portuguese town in the district of Lisbon, with about 5800 inhabitants.
It is home to a small municipality with 77.71 km ² and 11,795 inhabitants (2006), divided into four parishes (Arranhó, Arruda dos Vinhos, Cardosas of Santiago and Old). The city is limited to the northern city of Swindon, southeast of Vila Franca de Xira, south of Loures, Mafra by the west and northwest by Sobral.
A document dated 1172 by a donation from the town of the Order of Santiago Alvarez, warrant plowing by Dom Afonso Henriques, seems to be the oldest official document found so far regarding the "foundation" of the legal district.
Under the new Charters of Reading, Manuel gave in 1517, the village Foral de Arruda.

Short Historical Review

Situated in a fertile valley and mild, the ancient town of Arruda dos Vinhos dazzles, not only for its rich history but also by the well known hospitality of its people. You can scroll through the narrow streets of historic Arruda and feel the mystery and magic of medieval Portuguese. Here and there, the place names of streets, yards and places, suggests the existence of former royal palaces. The first monarch, we are left with the testimony of a document giving the village the Religious and Military Order of Santiago in 1172, proving, indeed, the importance and notoriety that the town already owned at the time. It was this Order which was a real engine of rural development in the region to make up a convent on the site Vilar, intended to accommodate the wives of the Knights who journeyed to the South, during the anniversary of the Reconquista. They were engaged in farming, by leasing land, promoting thus the dynamics of agriculture, especially the cultivation of the vine, given the exceptional features of this area for this type of activity.
Not only Arruda dos Vinhos since ancient times was an important center of wine production, but also because these places have been coming to see traces of an important ancient trading route of this product, widely appreciated, within and beyond the sea. This rich heritage, there is still today the development and expansion of activity in wine in a large part of the territory of the municipality.
For all this, even today, in villages and farms that surround couples and complete the harmony of the valleys, to work hard the fields are cultivated fertile floodplains, and prepare for the famous vineyards and bountiful harvests of autumn so well that typify the land and fill color. This long ritual labor and wisdom resulting annually in November, the Feast of Vine and Wine.

A feature of this tomb is that the stones used in its construction were brought from surrounding areas, not taking advantage of the existing site. It is classified as a National Monument.
