The Fortress of Bunk, located in the Town of Sagres, was built in the reign of King Manuel D. or John III, unspecified date, but prior to 1587. Function was to monitor a possible landing zone and protect the fishermen in the area.Inside, there is a chapel dedicated to St. Catherine. The entrance of the fort, bearing a shield with the Royal Arms and an inscription dated 1632 which refers to the reconstruction of the fort this year.
