The Marim Cottage, located in the Town of Quelfes, was built by the poet, musician and painter, John Pike in 1916 at Quinta do Marim. The cottage was later recovered by the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, faithfully respecting the original architecture.
For its exoticism, is still regarded as the epitome of symbolist architecture in Portugal. This is a building with three floors, square shape, no front or rear.
Orientated along the four cardinal points, four staircases mark the entrances to the center of the house topped with a skylight. The staircase to the north has the shape of fish, the south, guitar; the spring, violin; the west, Snake. Symbolically, the fish represents water, guitar, fire, and the violin, the air, the snake, the earth.
The Chalet is currently adapted to Ecoteca / Museum.
