Visit the Pinela Community Oven

Pinela's old communal oven for baking crockery may be more than a century old.
It was for years the local finishing line of the work of the local cantareiras, usually used in a group, where all the artisan production of clay crockery of Pinela, realized by several pots, the pots, vases, pitchers, and other containers were cooked.
It was a real art to do the dishes. Tell the local people that out of this small oven leave a lot of crockery. The pots placed the pitchers and larger pots at the base and from there they filled until they reached the top, placing the smaller pieces inside the larger ones. The dishes came in mixed, each pot had its own mark so there were no confusions in the time to separate the pieces.
It was up to the men to fetch the firewood from the mountain to throw the kiln at very high temperatures. It was customary for the population to gather around the oven while it baked.
The oven is still in good condition and although it is not currently used, it remains a landmark of great importance for the cultural, social and economic identity of the locality.
